The History of
Capitol Manor
Capitol Manor is an 85 unit Housing Cooperative subsidized through HUD's 236 Program which also includes 85% Property Based Section 8. Capitol Manor is located in San Jose on one of it's main thoroughfares, where the Valley Transportation Authority is currently constructing the new Light Rail system.

The Housing Cooperative was built in 1971 and has recently celebrated it's 30th Year Anniversary and was attend by the Department of Housing Urban Development Officials, as well as San Jose City Officials.

Equal Housing OpportunityCapitol Manor is comprised of 85 Shareholders who elect a five member Board of Directors to oversee their coop responsibilities.

The property has experienced major capitol improvements to the exterior structures. All 18 buildings have had their roofing materials, including down spouts and gutters replaced in the last two years. Handicap ramps have been constructed throughout the property to enhance the livability of Capitol Manor's disabled and senior members.

The parking lots areas throughout the property have been repaired, repaved and restriped. The playground equipment in both children areas are newly installed and have been upgraded to current City Codes.

With the Boards expertise and their knowledge of finance the property has been able to fund all of the improvements to date through retention of HUD's Excess Income Program and Reserve Account funds. The Board of Directors are hoping to continue this capitol improvement program to include the installation of double-paned windows in all units and painting of the exterior buildings within the next five years.
